Antique oak guéridon in black with a gilded leaf motif, neoclassical Empire Revival style, France, produced circa 1910–1920, in good condition with minor signs of aging.
Description from the seller
Rare guéridon - black with gilded leaf motif - Empire Revival, c. 1920-1930
Stately guéridon (pedestal table) with a deep black finish and richly gilded woodcarving: a wreath of acanthus leaves, a graceful pearl border and a festoon motif with a tassel on the column shaft.
- Style: Empire, probably a revival piece from around 1920-1930 — the visible dowel construction and the regular, even finish of the gilding point to semi-industrial manufacture, rather than original 19th-century handcraft.
- Origin: probably France
Made from oak.
A notable feature is the construction of the top: it is no less than 3 cm thick and built up from laminated wood, a technique used at the time to guarantee a perfectly flat surface — even after many decades there is hardly any tendency to warp or movement of the wood. Origin not determined with certainty.
This determination is an estimate based on visible characteristics (construction, finish and form language), not a formal appraisal or brand verification.
