About Ottmar Hörl:
Ottmar Hörl, born in 1950 in Nauheim, Germany, is a German conceptual artist, sculptor, installation-, action-, photography- and object-artist. He gained worldwide fame for his radical, avant-garde art concepts and large-scale projects with serial sculptures in public spaces, based on his distinctive definition of sculpture as an organizational principle.
He is regarded as an "offensive and direct strategist who campaigns for a new type of public art" and as the most successful artist who makes multiples, an artist who realizes his vision of art for everyone and, like no other to date, promotes the democratization of sculpture as a whole.
His major contributions to the visual arts have earned him several prizes, of which the latest, the CREO Innovation Award, was awarded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kreativität e. V. and in 2015 Hörl was presented at Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main. Since 1999, Hörl has held a professorship as a professor at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Nürnberg and has been president of the Academy since 2005. Moreover, he is a co-founder of the group Formalhaut. Ottmar Hörl lives and works in Wertheim, Frankfurt am Main and Nuremberg.
