Description from the seller
Nado Canuti (1929) – Due Samurai (Oil and Vinegar)
Multiples sculpture by Nado Canuti, Italian artist born in Bettolle, Siena in 1929 and active mainly in Milan. From the 1960s Canuti devoted himself mainly to sculpture, developing over time a language that is increasingly geometric and essential. He participated, among other things, in the 9th and 10th Rome Quadriennale, and his works are present in museums and public and private collections.
The work, named in the original documentation “Due samurai (olio aceto)”, represents two stylized figures that function as containers for oil and vinegar. It is precisely this meeting between sculpture and everyday object that is one of the most interesting aspects of the work: Canuti starts from two elements normally present together on the table and transforms them into two characters, preserving their function but giving them a new identity.
The two samurai are built through geometric shapes, interlocks, and metallic elements, characteristics recurring in Canuti’s research. In this work one can read the artist’s intention to cross the boundary between object and sculpture: oil and vinegar remain usable in their original function, but their containers become figures and thus part of a small narrative composition. This relationship between assembled forms, transformation, and the possibility of interaction with the work is consistent with the sculptor’s path.
The work stands about 22 cm high and is produced, as reported on the original certificate, in O.T. 64 first title, with finishes in black nickel, gold plated, and silver plated, by galvanic process and silver bath 1000/1000 and 24 K gold.
It is a limited edition multiple, signed and numbered by the artist. The piece is accompanied by the original illustrated certificate of authenticity signed by Nado Canuti and the original box.
The work is in overall good condition, with slight signs of time and surface wear compatible with the nature of the materials. The photographs are an integral part of the description and show the actual state of the work.
