Shrunken Joseph’s Coat German Handmade Marble 1.151 inch, a glass German-made antique marble from 1850–1900, with a 29.0–29.2 mm diameter and a distinctive inward pulled coat creating depth beneath the clear outer layer.
Description from the seller
Offered from my private collection: a beautiful, rare, and 100% authentic antique German handmade glass marble. This is a highly sought-after Joseph's Coat in the desirable shrunken variant (approx. 1860–1920).
On this specific specimen, the colorful coat was pulled inward during the blowing process. This creates a stunning depth effect beneath the clear outer layer, as well as the characteristic curve/twist at the poles. The marble features a beautifully vibrant palette with bands of red, orange, green, yellow, and white.
Unique Features & Dimensions:
This is a large 'Shooter' size (over 1 inch), making it exceptionally rare and highly coveted among collectors. The marble exhibits the typical, charming out-of-roundness of antique craftsmanship:
• Diameter from pontil to pontil: 1.140 inches (~29.0 mm)
• Diameter at the equator: 1.151 inches (~29.2 mm)
Condition:
The marble is in beautiful, honest historical condition (Good / Near Mint-). The surface shows some light signs of age, fine hairlines, and tiny hit marks (flea bites) consistent with its great age and the fact that it was played with in the past. There are no major fractures or deep chips; the core is perfectly and clearly visible. The pontil marks are present at both poles.
A true centerpiece for the serious marble collector.
