Description from the seller

The Vatican’s new series of euro coins, the first issued during the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV, draws directly on the pope’s coat of arms, reproduced on the cover with a chalky finish and in relief against an ivory background. A deep blue tone highlights the inscriptions and key graphic elements, evoking the colors of the two heraldic fields of the papal shield. This same color combination will play an even more prominent role in the new design of the case that will accompany future numismatic issues. It is not merely an aesthetic choice, but a true homage and a direct reference to the new pontificate. The coins contained in the case feature an unprecedented alternation between the portrait of the Pope and the papal shield: the portrait appears on the higher-denomination denominations, while the shield appears on the lower-denomination ones, creating a graphic concept never before seen in the history of Vatican coin series. The 2-euro coin also incorporates the distinctive elements of Pope Leo XIV’s coat of arms: the fleur-de-lis, symbol of purity and Marian devotion, and the heart in flames pierced by an arrow over an open book, which represent Augustinian spirituality and the power of the Word of God to transform the human heart. Artist and sculptor: Daniela Longo. Engravers: Emanuele Ferretti (2 euros), Marta Bonifacio (1 euro), Antonio Vecchio (50 cents), Silvia Petrassi (20 cents), Annalisa Masini (10 cents), Valerio de Seta (5 cents), Emanuele Ferretti (2 cents), Antonio Vecchio (1 cent).
