Description from the seller
We present at auction an Iconic design lot:
Lounge Chair (Model 670) with its coordinated ottoman (Model 671), conceived in 1956 by the famous American studio Charles & Ray Eames.
Produced in Italy in the 1970s by ICF under official Herman Miller license, this exemplary piece stands out for the combination with veined Brazilian rosewood casings paired with cushions in black aniline leather, original to the era.
Design and History: The Most Noble Essence of Brazilian Rosewood
Present in the MoMA New York permanent collection, the Lounge Chair has redefi ned the very concept of the high-end club chair:
Architecture of Comfort: The chair’s constant seat tilt and the combination of cushioned supports are designed to offer a total relaxation experience, embracing the body with the softness of a well-used classic baseball glove.
Lot Conditions:
The chair presents itself in excellent condition for its era, structurally sound; the veining of Brazilian rosewood and the black floral aniline leather give it an extraordinary effect.
Veined Brazilian rosewood casings.
Original Leather Upholstery: Unlike many reupholstered exemplars, this lot retains its original black floral aniline leather upholstery from the era, preserved and nurtured with care. The leather is soft, supple, perfectly cleaned and free from tears or compromising wear, preserving that unique and elegant vintage patina.
Aluminum and Foundry: The aluminum cast bases with detailing are stable and, after careful cleaning and polishing, have returned to a brilliant shine.
Marks present on the seat and ottoman bases with code 670-671/B embossed in relief in the aluminum alloy of the bases, a distinctive sign of the foundry matrices of ICF from that era.
