Description from the seller
Elegant liturgical silver incense boat, likely of Venetian manufacture, dating to the 19th century.
Antique Venetian Silver Incense Boat – Lombardo-Venetian Hallmarks – 19th Century
Elegant liturgical incense-boat in silver, probably of Venetian manufacture, datable to the 19th century.
The object features refined decoration with foliage motifs and volutes, worked in repousée and chasing, with a shaped body, raised circular foot and a hinged lid with a decorative terminal element.
There are punches attributable to the silver control system of the Lombardo-Veneto Kingdom, compatible with fineness 800/1000 and with the Venetian area. The reading of the marks is coherent with Venetian production of the 19th century.
The typology is the traditional one of the incense boat, used in liturgy to contain the incense before it is used in the thurible.
Period: 19th century, indicative mid-1800s
Origin: Venetian/Lombardo-Veneto area, attribution based on style and marks
Material: silver, presumably fineness 800/1000
Height: about 18 cm
Total weight: about 430 g
Technique: repoussé, chasing and casting
The object preserves a substantial decorative presence and considerable substance, features particularly interesting for collectors of sacred silverware and Venetian silver.
Shows normal signs of age and use compatible with its age. It is advisable to examine the photographs carefully, which are an integral part of the description.
