Description from the seller
Schaal - Rookbruin 'Ananas' with diamond relief, Art Deco • Copier for Leerdam (attributed) • 1930s - Glass
Rook-brun schaal with a wide flat rim, twisted diamond relief and a six-pointed star on the bottom. Unnoticed; the model is known as Ananas from Copier for Leerdam, without a brand confirming it.
An Art Deco bowl in smoked-brown glass, model Ananas, attributed to Andries Copier for Glasfabriek Leerdam. The relief distinguishes it: a twisted ring of diamond facets frames a hexagon with six rays on the bottom. The glass runs from honey at the rim to deep chocolate brown in the center.

At a glance:
Material: smoked-brown glass, pressed in the mold
Dimensions: h 4.5 cm x diameter 30 cm
Weight: 950 g
Brand: no factory mark, signature or label found
Dating: 1930s; the trade dates the model to 1934 or 1937
Provenance: from the collection of Decaders Gallery
Description and context:
Shallow bowl with a broad, flat rim and a recessed, hexagonal bottom surface. From the rim a ring of twisted facets runs toward the center. Merchants and collector catalogs call this model Ananas, after the diamond-pattern of the fruit, and place it with Copier for Leerdam, with 1934 as the design year. Comparable pieces exist in light green and smoky-colored glass. At 950 g and 30 cm diameter, the wall is on average about 5 millimeters thick, consistent with pressed glass.
Condition:
Good. Bottom and bottom ring: fine scratches and signs of use, see the images. Relief: facets and bottom star sharp and complete. Rim: no chips, hairline cracks or restorations observed. Glass mass: scattered small air bubbles, typical to this glass and no damage. The underside is unmarked. Offered as a decorative object.
In the interior:
Fits in an Art Deco, mid-century or eclectic interior, as a centerpiece or on a sideboard. In daylight the smoked-brown glass shifts from honey to chocolate brown.
Shipping:
Professionally packed in a sturdy box with cushioning material, for delicate objects a double box. Always insured with Track and Trace. See feedback from previous buyers.
Attribution and sources:
Attributed to Andries Copier for Glasfabriek Leerdam, on the basis of the bottom star, facet ring, and shape that match comparison specimens of the Ananas model. A brand is missing and museum documentation has not been found; the attribution rests on trade sources. The Ananas from Kristalunie Maastricht is a tableware pattern for drinkware and thus a different model.
