Description from the seller
Complete set of the 23 official Tour de France cards from 1955 illustrated by Van Dongen, including 22 stamps dated and canceled on the day of issue, and a final card with handwritten correspondence.
Cards No. 1 to No. 22 (stage cards) are stamped and canceled on the day, with clear, uniform postmarks. They are not addressed and contain no correspondence, in line with their original philatelic use.
Card No. 23 (final card) is stamped, canceled, with handwritten correspondence and handwritten address. This is the only card that was actually sent.
Postcard dimensions: 15.3 x 11 cm
Back:
The cards feature two printing types on the back, which is common for this official 1955 series (different printing lots).
Back type 1: complete list of stages by city, with the mention "J. Foret, Editor, 64, rue La Fayette, Paris-9 (Series 6th year) – Reproduction forbidden".
Back type 2: a completable table (mileage, average speed, winner, general classification), with the printed address "Organisation Philatélique du Tour de France cycliste, 10, Fg Montmartre, Paris 9e" and the note "J. Foret, Editor, 64, rue La Fayette, Paris-9 (Series 6th year) – Reproduction forbidden – Reproduction rights reserved S.P.A.D.E.M.".
Normal variations for this series; overall coherent and complete.
Condition: very good overall. Cards clean, colors fresh, no stains, no major creases.
Card No. 23: copy in very good condition, not frayed, with period handwritten correspondence.
Normal postal usage marks for 1955.
