Great statue - Tchamba - Togo

Large statue, Tchamba or Losso culture, northern Togo. H.60cm

Imposing and powerful Tchamba or Losso statuette from northern Togo. The figure has an undeniable presence, an ancient and primal force emanating from it. It is a living and vibrant object. The alchemy between the invisible forces of the spirits and the sculptor's creative hand has operated perfectly.

The figure seems rooted to the ground in a confident stance. It regards us with its hard, piercing gaze. Its tense body, positioned well forward, accentuates the sense of defiance and arrogance. It knows its strength and will not be intimidated. The sculpture is flawless, the treatment of volumes bold, dynamic and harmonious. The sculptor has put all his artistry into this work. A beautiful, rare, authentic antique piece for a collection. Circa 1950.
