Grand and atypical Adan scepter from Togo. It is rare to see an Adan object of this style; it's the first I’ve seen in 15 years, objects from Ghana, Togo, and Nigeria are my specialty. The sculpture is dynamic and lively. There is movement in this work. The whole has its own balance, in a beautiful asymmetry! The central figure is absorbed, immersed in the parallel worlds of spirits. Dressed in fabrics. Two figures support it from below. This object leads us to a naïve and dreamlike universe. The sculpture is simplified and schematic; there is a raw, primal force emanating from this piece. Beautiful dry patina, with traces of dried blood in places. It is an old object; the wood and patina attest to that. A beautiful old and authentic collector’s piece. Circa 1950.
