Statue head - Ancient terracotta - Job - Nigeria

Head of a statue, Chamba culture, Nigeria. H. 20cm.

Beautiful fragment of a terracotta figure from Nigeria. Attributed to the Chamba ethnicity. No precise dating. But at least more than a hundred years old given the surface, the erosion and the technique.

The face is beautiful, lifelike. The gaze is deep and powerful. It is a inhabited work. The style appears fairly simple and naïve, but it holds a great sensitivity. The artist has managed to convey through this work an emotion.

The mouth is cracked. The top of the skull is split but solid. The rest of the body is missing; it is a fragment.

The piece is solid, with no fragile parts. See photos for more details. The photos are part of the description.

Custom-made base.

A beautiful antique piece, rare and authentic. Circa 1950
