Description from the seller
Pair of antique three-flame wall candle holders in iron and gilded wood – Italy, 19th/20th century
Description
Elegant pair of wall candle holders with three flames, made of worked iron and gilded with turned and gilded wood candlestick supports. Each element features a symmetrical structure consisting of wide side volutes ending in scrolls and a central arched element adorned with a geometric motif of a double ogee. The composition is completed by three holders arranged at different heights.
Each seat is equipped with the original iron finial intended to support candles by being driven in. The three shaped and turned holders retain the antique gilding and show, in the areas affected by finish wear, the light underlying preparatory layer.
At the back there are two long flat iron brackets intended for mounting or for insertion into a wall bracket.
The decorative line, construction, and the presence of the finials connect the pair to the tradition of Italian ecclesiastical and devotional furnishings, probably made between the late 19th and early 20th century.
The pair retains a beautiful old patina and is particularly decorative even in contemporary interiors.
