Description from the seller

This pair of blown-glass bowls by Barovier & Toso clearly represents the balance between technical rigor and formal freedom that characterizes the historic Murano furnace. They are two small-format pieces, united by the same stylistic matrix but distinct in color: one in crystalline transparency, pure and luminous, the other in a delicate amber shade that recalls the charm of smoky glass typical of Venetian production between the 1950s and 1970s.

The form is organic yet controlled: a wavy movement that opens outward, almost a vegetal corolla, marked by twelve heat-molded lobes. The glossy surface, with its play of reflections and transparencies, amplifies the plastic effect of the modulation, while the thickness of the glass lends weight and presence to the object even in its small size.

From a technical standpoint, these bowls testify to skill in freehand craftsmanship and in the adept management of the glass mass. The fluid and regular folds are not the result of a mold, but of a calibrated twist and of the skilled pressure exerted by the master glassworker during the blowing phase, when the glass is still incandescent. Each undulation is therefore unique, slightly different, carrying with it the trace of the artisanal gesture.

The crystal-clear transparency of the first bowl highlights the purity of Venetian glass, known for its extraordinary clarity and for its ability to capture light in a nearly liquid way. The amber specimen, instead, returns a warmer and more enveloping tone, evoking crepuscular atmospheres and a more intimate aesthetic. The pairing of the two pieces thus underscales Barovier & Toso’s color versatility, capable of transforming the same shape into two completely different visual experiences.

From a historical-artistic perspective, objects like these reflect not only Murano decorative tradition but also the push toward a more essential and sculptural design, capable of fitting both elite collecting and modern domestic interiors. Small functional sculptures, occupying a space between knick-knack and contemplative work of art.

In short, these bowls are not mere containers: they are exercises in glassmaking mastery, examples of Barovier & Toso’s ability to combine the ancient language of Murano glass with a contemporary sensibility, where light, color and form become absolute protagonists.
