Description from the seller

Opinel No. 08 Cane – Engraved folding knife – Oak wood – Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel blade – France

Description

Up for auction is an elegant Opinel No. 08 Cane, one of the most fascinating versions of the iconic French knife, distinguished by a refined laser engraving depicting a boar immersed in a mountainous landscape on the oak handle.

The No. 08 is the most versatile model of the historic Opinel collection: thanks to its balanced size and light weight, it is perfect for daily use, hikes, camping, trekking, mushroom foraging, picnics and moments of conviviality.

The 8.5 cm blade is made from European-origin Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel, tempered to 55-57 HRC, an alloy developed to offer an excellent balance between cutting ability, edge retention and corrosion resistance. The high wear resistance keeps the blade sharp longer even after regular use on demanding materials, while stainless steel requires minimal maintenance under normal use.

The handle, 10.9 cm long, is crafted from premium French oak wood, a hard, durable essence naturally rich in tannins that makes it particularly resistant to insects and fungi. The finish with protective varnish protects the wood from moisture and dirt, preserving its beauty over time.

The knife is equipped with the famous Virobloc safety ring, invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel and present on all models from No. 06 onward. Made of stainless steel, it consists of a fixed part and a rotating part that allows the blade to be locked in the open position for safer use, or in the closed position, ensuring safety during transport.

This piece is supplied with the original Opinel packaging, as visible in the photos.
