A brass Rocaille/Louis XV Revival desk inkstand dating to about 1870–1890, French in origin, with two ink containers, a central compartment and an openwork gallery, measuring 28 × 18 × 12 cm, in good condition with minor signs of wear and a replaced damaged lid.
Description from the seller
A striking antique Rocaille/Louis XV Revival desk inkstand, probably French and dating from the second half of the 19th century, circa 1870–1900. Exceptionally ornate, with flowing Rocaille scrolls, acanthus leaves, floral motifs, pierced decoration and elegant curved feet, the piece features two lateral ink containers and a central compartment, crowned by an impressive openwork ornamental gallery. The richly aged gilt-metal surface displays an attractive natural patina and subtle traces of use, enhancing its authentic antique character. Dimensions: 28 × 18 × 12 cm (maximum L × W × H).
Good overall condition for its age, with minor scratches, wear and age-related marks. One of the original hinged lids was damaged at the hinge and has been replaced; this historic alteration is clearly visible and is reflected in the description. A substantial and highly decorative 19th-century writing accessory, particularly appealing to collectors of French Rocaille objects, antique desk accessories and decorative arts.
