An antique-style candelabrum dating from around 1900, made of non-ferrous alloy with an onyx base, in a neorococo/neobarock decorative style, measuring about 59 cm high and 21 cm wide and deep.
Description from the seller
A very beautiful, richly decorated antique candelabrum is offered (possibly originally made as a luxurious lamp base or as part of an exclusive clock set / garniture de cheminée). The piece is executed in a lavish eclectic style with strong influences from French neorococo (Louis XV style) and neobaroque, dating from the late 19th century (c. 1880–1900).
The candelabrum is made of a high-quality non-ferrous metal and is completely non-magnetic. The casting is of excellent quality and shows very fine details. The goblet-shaped candle dish (bobeche) features an openwork edge with perforations and is adorned with stylized acanthus leaves and palmettes. The stem is built up with a detailed, globular nodus full of floral motifs and garlands.
The highly decorative rocaille base rests on graceful C-scrolls and asymmetrical foliage motifs. The absolute focal point of the base is the smoothly polished, semicircular ring of yellow-green onyx marble (historically known as Onyx d’Algérie), which gives the whole piece a very exclusive appearance. The metal is finished with a beautiful, dark antique patina with light, natural signs of aging.
Note: The shown wax candle in the photos is for illustration only and is not included with the purchase. You are bidding only on the metal candelabrum with onyx foot.
Period: Late 19th century / early 20th century (Belle Époque / Historicism)
Origin: France / Western Europe
Material: Non-ferrous metal (non-magnetic bronze/brass or patinated zamak) and natural stone (onyx marble)
Style: Neorococo / Neobarock
Condition: In good, original antique condition with a nicely worn patina. No structural defects or cracks in the marble. See photos for a full personal impression.
