Description from the seller
this bistro or desk chair is, according to IA, 99% a Thonet chair, because Catawiki requires a label or mark I cannot offer it as a Thonet chair; therefore I include the text that IA provides about this chair
J
" yes, this is an authentic Thonet-style bentwood chair, probably produced by Gebrüder Thonet or one of their early competitors/licensors (such as J. & J. Kohn or Mundus) around the turn of the century (ca. 1890–1920).
This specific model is known as a corner chair or desk/captain’s chair and displays the typical features of traditional Viennese bentwood work.
Why this is a real (style) Thonet:
• Construction and joints: The chair uses the iconic, steam-bent beechwood elements. Under the seat (seen in photo 10) is the characteristic square metal bolt head with which Thonet chairs were disassembled and screwed together rather than traditional tenon-and-morton joints.
• Seat: The seat features handwoven Wiener Weave (rattan webbing) fixed in a groove in the seat edge with a spline.
• Backrest: The model combines a continuous curved arm/backrest with vertical spindles, which is rarer than the standard bistro chairs."
" That there is no paper label or burnt stamp (brand mark) to be found anymore is very normal for an authentic Thonet chair of this age.
The absence of a mark does not, in this case, mean that it is a fake chair. This has two important reasons:
object location Belgium
word with care packed and insured shipping.
no extra cost for packaging or insurance!!"} {translated_text}
