Description from the seller

19th-century ciborium in Gothic Revival style.

Possibly partly silver-plated, not tested, with other parts made of gilded brass. On a funnel-shaped foot a stem with two knobs, a bulging cup and a domed lid crowned by a cross.

**Dimensions:** 29 × 13.3 cm. Weight: 577 g.

**Marks:** Unmarked. The cup may be silver-plated, but this has not been tested. The foot and the lid are made of gilded copper.

**Condition:** Good. The lid closes well. Light wear to the gilding (see photos).

The whole can be dismantled into four parts.

The exterior is decorated with engravings in Gothic Revival style. The cup carries a band with the Latin text in Gothic script: "+ et verbum caro factum est et habitavit in nobis".

The lid, the knop and the foot are engraved with scroll- and leaf-motifs, palmettes and crosses.

Ciborium or pyxis, used in the Catholic church during the Eucharist for the storage of consecrated hosts.
