This legendary local railway locomotive is far better known by its nickname "Glaskasten" than by its official designation. The name stems from the distinctive construction of the driver's cab, which is built all around the boiler and largely consists of windows. Thanks to the semi-automatic shaking grate firing, the machine could be operated by one man, making it especially suitable for light service on branch lines. The Glaskasten is thus one of the most characteristic and beloved sights of Bavarian local railway operation.
