Portuguese trompe-l’œil decorative ceramic plate by Joaquín Roque, dating to 1960–1970, 32 cm in diameter and 5 cm deep, featuring a high-relief lobster with marine motifs in greens, reds and creams.
Description from the seller
Magnificent Portuguese trompe-l'œil dish by Joaquín Roque, made in glazed ceramic and characterized by spectacular marine decoration modeled in high relief.
The composition is dominated by a large lobster of intense red color, rendered with notable volume and accompanied by mussels, small seafood and botanical motifs distributed over a background of rich textures. The combination of greens, reds, cream and dark tones, together with the bright finish of the glazes, gives the piece extraordinary visual impact.
This type of trompe-l'œil or trompe-l'œil dishes belongs to an interesting Portuguese decorative ceramic tradition, in which foods, fruits, animals and natural elements are represented in three dimensions, aiming to surprise with its realism and marked sculptural character.
Especially attractive for its large format, it constitutes a singular piece of decorative ceramics and collectible, with magnificent presence both displayed on the wall and integrated into a collection of Portuguese ceramics.
It is in good overall condition, with the signs of time. The piece measures 32 cm in diameter, is of Portuguese origin and preserves on the reverse the embossed mark of Joaquín Roque.
