Description from the seller
TABLE SERVICE
Fêtes Galantes
French F.D. Chauvigny porcelain · Véritable Porcelaine · France
18th-century gallant scenes · gold and lace · large service
The service on the table. Dishes, platters, goblets, gravy boat.
The piece
A table service in hard French porcelain, manufacture F.D. Chauvigny (Deshoulières family, Vienne). White paste, trimmed rim, gold lace frieze, small gold sprigs and, at the center, an 18th-century couple — he in a red coat and bicorne hat, she in a skirt in purple and cream. The taste is that of fêtes galantes: Watteau and Fragonard rendered on festive porcelain.
It is not Limoges porcelain with geographic indication. It is Chauvigny porcelain, an old house, fired at high temperature, the same factory that made tableware for hotels and for the home table. The gold is commercial, the decoration is high-quality chromolithography — not studio painting signed. It looks nice on the table and withstands use.
