Description from the seller
This enameled earthenware vase is an example of ceramic art from the Art Deco period, created within the famous Boch Frères Keramis manufacture in La Louvière, Belgium. This piece features the famous decor number D. 876 designed by the artist and artistic director Charles Catteau (1880 - 1966), produced here on the shape model number 629. The design of this baluster gourd vase is characterized by an elegant ovoid silhouette extending into a long open neck, coated with a bright yellow enamel. The body is enhanced by large oval cream-ground medallions enclosing stylized polychrome flower bouquets in shades of orange, green, and burgundy, outlined by black cloisonné lines. Alternating white and black vertical bands connect the neck to the base to elegantly structure the design. The object has a total height of 23 cm, a body diameter of approximately 13 cm at its widest point, a neck diameter of 45 mm, and a gross weight of 600 grams on the scale. Underneath the base of the piece, the official blue markings attest to its historical authenticity with the stamp of the earthenware factory bearing the mentions made in belgium and boch frères la louvière fabrication belge, accompanied by the handwritten black-painted mark indicating the decor reference D. 876, the incised shape number 629, and the Ct initials of Charles Catteau. Regarding the condition, this vase is in very good overall condition, showing a beautiful gloss of the enamels and a regular natural crazing of the earthenware glaze, without any damage, cracks, or restoration.
