About the work:

For this sixteenth title in the Des oiseaux collection, the great Brazilian photographer delved into his imposing archives to select a choice of exceptional images that celebrate a world exclusively populated by albatrosses, eagles, parrots, gannets and other rare species. For more than thirty years, Sebastião Salgado has continually photographed, on land as well as at sea, traveling to the most remote regions, whether in the Amazon, in Asia, in Africa, or to the icy expanse of Antarctica. This volume, more than half of whose photographs are unreleased, is a true ode to the beauty of our planet.

To accompany this visual corpus, a text by Erik Orsenna evokes our close ties with the world of birds, while an interview between Sebastião Salgado and Philippe Séclier, co-director of the Des oiseaux collection, testifies to the special relationship the photographer maintains with the animal kingdom. Faithful to his aesthetic principles and to his commitments as an environmental advocate, Sebastião Salgado is today one of the most prominent names in contemporary photography.
