Bronze Celtic amulet pendant from the 3rd–1st century BC, a talisman for protection, measuring 23 × 16 × 2 mm and weighing 2.08 g, in excellent condition, acquired in 2004 in Austria from a private collection.
Description from the seller
This Celtic amulet with religious or magical powers intended to protect, heal or harm the people it is made for symbolizes the chimney with burning coal.
Talisman have been used in many civilizations throughout history, with connections to astrological, scientific, religious practices, personal protection of the user, their loved ones or belongings, help fertility and assist crop production.
INTERPRETATION: This Celtic amulet represents the eternal protection of the home and family. Its main symbol is the burning coal from the Samhain bonfire, a Celtic festival that marked the end of the harvest and at which sacred fires were lit as offerings to the gods. The Celts carried coal from that bonfire to their homes as a symbol of protection and good fortune.
The amulet is composed of three elements: the burning coal at the top, which symbolizes protective strength; a central circle, which represents eternity; and the image of the home at the bottom. Taken together, the talisman symbolizes the ongoing protection of the owner, their family and their home.
Date: centuries V-IV BC
Origin: Northern Europe.
Material: bronze, very nice.
