• It takes its name from sharing characteristics with agate objects found in tombs from the Warring States period in China.
• Current deposits were discovered from 2008 in northern China (notably Beipiao in Liaoning and Xuanhua in Hebei), before being marketed around 2013 and classified in gemology in 2015.
• Hardness: 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale.

Characteristics and Symbolism
• Colors: It features alternating red bands (considered precious) and yellow bands (considered noble).
• History: During the pre-Qin period, this material was likely referred to as “red jade.”
• Use: Highly sought after for jewelry making, carved spheres
