Natural shark teeth specimen from Portugal dating to the Neogene/Miocene, weighing 3 kg, with original authenticity, specimen Tubarão.
Description from the seller
The collection includes a remarkable variety of species, many of which are already extinct. Standout specimens include the megalodon (Otodus megalodon), the largest predatory shark ever to have existed, and the sawtooth shark (Hemipristis serra), with its unmistakable curved and serrated teeth. There are also ancestral forms of the mako shark and the tiger shark, as well as numerous other genera. The sizes range from imposing teeth, with shiny crowns, well-preserved enamel and clear serrations, to tiny specimens weighing less than a gram, illustrating the full diversity of dentitions.
The color palette also draws attention: deep blacks and greys, bluish tones, ochres and beiges. Each shade reflects the sediments in which each tooth rested for millions of years.
In terms of quantity, diversity and Portuguese provenance, this is a collection of great scientific and educational interest. It is ideal for paleontological study, education and museology, or for the collector seeking a unique testimony of the prehistoric oceans off the Portuguese coast. A rare opportunity that is unlikely to recur.
