Bedspread - 255 cm - 245 cm

Splendid and rare antique matrimoniale bedspread (late 1800s / early 1900s), an authentic masterpiece of Italian textile craftsmanship from an important noble trousseau.

The piece is entirely handmade using the complex technique of Pizzo Filet a Modano. The base is a square-knotted mesh created entirely by hand (the authentic knotty texture visible to the eye in the photographic details), subsequently embroidered with running stitch/cloth stitch to bring the design to life.

Iconographic and Decorative Details:
• Center Panel: A refined figurative medallion depicting two Putti/ Angels surrounded by garlands and botanical motifs.
• Border and Frames: Rich geometric Greek key motif inspired by classical design and Renaissance winged figures at the corners.
• Finish: Magnificent perimeter ruffle entirely worked with geometric facets, giving an extremely elegant fall along the sides of the bed.

• Large Double Size: Approximately 245 x 255 cm (Measurements as shown in the attached photos).

Condition:
The bedspread is in excellent conservation for its age. The Modano netting is extraordinarily intact and sturdy, free from the typical tears, holes, or coarse restorations that often afflict these antique fabrics. The thread (a high-quality twisted cotton/linens) preserves its lovely warm natural ivory/amber tone, never altered by aggressive bleaching.
