Description from the seller
Fruit/Dessert Service (12 pcs) in Gilded Brass Engraved and Silver-Plated – Esoteric / Art Deco Style – Early 1900s
Lot consisting of: 6 knives and 6 fruit or dessert forks (Total 12 pieces).
Period: Early 20th Century (circa 1910–1930).
Style: Art Deco / Eclectic with Orientalist and Exotic influences.
Materials: Blades and tines in finely engraved gilded brass; handles silver-plated.
Splendid and refined vintage fruit or dessert service from the period, composed of 6 knives and 6 forks, an excellent testimony to the eclectic and exotic taste that characterized high European craftsmanship in the early decades of the twentieth century. All cutlery pieces have a substantial and balanced length of 21 cm each, a generous measure typical of high-class tableware of the era. The total weight of the 12 pieces is 460 grams.
The blades of the knives and the bodies of the forks are adorned with extraordinary decorations featuring exotic symbolism inspired by Orientalism, executed with great technical mastery through acid engraving and mechanical burin finishing, creating interactions of light and highly detailed glossy/matte areas.
The handles, silver-plated, present an elegant raised floral motif that blends harmoniously with the iconography of the utensil body.
Condition: the service is in excellent vintage condition, especially considering its age. Only very slight and normal signs of wear and a light natural oxidation at the junction between the handle and the shaft of the utensil are noted, elements that certify its authenticity and the absence of modern restorations.
