Description from the seller
Rare historical entomological museum drawer – 25 exotic tropical butterflies – from the ex Vestergaard collection
Very fine and colorful historical entomological museum drawer with 25 prepared exotic day-flying butterflies, originating from the Vestergaard collection.
The butterflies are professionally prepared and mounted in a natural, fully spread position in an original wooden entomological museum drawer with glass lid, size approximately 40 × 30 cm.
It concerns a very varied collection of tropical butterflies from different genera and families.
Notable are, among others, large blue iridescent butterflies, spectacular green-blue forms, orange daggerwings, leafwings, yellow Pieridae and several black-and-white and brown-marked Nymphalidae.
The collection thus provides a beautiful overview of the enormous shape- and color-diversity of tropical day-flyers.
Origin: ex collection Vestergaard
Quantity: 25 specimens
Drawer dimensions: ca. 40 × 30 cm
Presentation: wooden museum drawer with glass lid
Type: historical entomological collection / prepared day-flyers
Origins: mainly tropical Central and South America, with species/groups from, among others, the Amazon region, Brazil, Peru, Colombia and surrounding areas; in the Vestergaard collection there were also specimens from Africa and Asia.
Why this drawer is special
The special thing is not only in the individual butterflies, but especially in the complete historical ensemble.
An original museum drawer with 25 different exotic butterflies, all professionally prepared and kept together, is becoming increasingly hard to find.
As a whole, this is a collection that belongs in a natural history museum.
A lifetime of collecting, hand-prepared. This is a lot for the serious collector who is looking for provenance, data and species you will never find in a shop.
We have received 100 new Vestergaard museum drawers!!!
Again a very large complete scientific insect collection.
Provenance Vestergaard / Gyulai and several other national and international entomologists.
We will auction this collection again with no minimum prices on Catawiki, so keep an eye on my listings.
Pickup is preferred due to fragility. If you buy multiple drawers we can arrange possible personal delivery.
If shipping, we will pack the drawers carefully and very well.
Although all insects are securely mounted on pins, there is always a small chance of damage.
Therefore shipping is also at your own risk.
We have already shipped more than 80 drawers and all but one pin have arrived safely.
Packed with great care and shipped insured.
