Description from the seller
Stupendous specimen of Calcite on Sphalerite from the famous Trepča mine, Kosovo, of generous size and with very rich crystallization.
Calcite forms numerous aggregated crystals, distributed over much of the specimen, while the dark Sphalerite is clearly visible on the front as well as in the matrix. On one side there is also a small presence of Pyrite.
Particularly interesting is the response to UV light. Calcite shows intense fluorescence, with tones that vary significantly depending on the type of lamp used, as documented in the photographs.
On the front of the specimen there is also a zone that under UV light develops a striking yellow-green fluorescence. In natural light, in the same area, Sphalerite is visible; the origin of the yellow fluorescence has not been determined and could be related to a thin superficial material unidentified. The photographs in natural light and UV allow a clear comparison between the two conditions.
Provenance: Trepča, Kosovo
Weight: 2.08 kg
Dimensions: 16 × 14 × 9 cm
Fluorescence and related hues may vary depending on the type of UV lamp used.
The photographs are an integral part of the description.
Colors may vary slightly depending on the device used to view the images.
