Alias - Sou Fujimoto - Bookcase - Wood - Alias Bookchair 210

Teaming up with Italian furniture brand Alias, Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto designed the playful Bookchair: a chair within a bookshelf, or a bookshelf housing a chair, depending on how you choose to see it. Inspired by architectural space and the human body, this innovative furniture piece addresses the simple act of choosing a book and sitting down to read it.

Though the classic and compact lines of the bookshelf is broken by the chair’s curving shape, there is a curiously harmonious balance between the two elements. “The bookcase becomes an element of the environment where it is installed, playing an active, continually changing role,” states the design firm.
