Description from the seller
Exceptional and large elasmosaurs fossil skull
Period: Late Cretaceous, about 80 million years ago.
Remarkable fossil skull belonging to an exceptional adult specimen of Elasmosaurus, one of the most iconic and fascinating marine reptiles of the Cretaceous. A majestic and imposing animal, characterized by the famous extremely elongated neck, which plowed the vast prehistoric oceans and is traditionally considered the inspiration for the legendary Loch Ness Monster.
The proposed specimen represents a finding of absolute rarity. Elasmosaurus fossils are indeed extremely rare in phosphate deposits, and the discovery of complete skulls is exceptional due to the delicacy and fragility of the bones. Pieces of this quality are hard to come by on the collecting market.
The skull is in good preservation, with excellent bone quality and well-defined foramina, offering excellent anatomical legibility and a remarkable visual impact.
Skull length: 49 cm, indicative of a fully mature specimen belonging to an animal that could exceed 12 meters in total length.
The specimen is accompanied by a iron support, designed to render it immediately ready for display.
Origin: Sidi Chennane phosphate Formation, Morocco, one of the world’s most renowned areas for Late Cretaceous marine vertebrate discoveries.
This skull represents a piece of considerable interest for high-level private collections, museums, foundations, companies and display spaces, where it can form a central element of strong historical, scientific and exhibitory value.
Professional and 100% secure shipping, via specialized couriers and packaging suitable for high-value objects.
