A late 19th‑century French Art Nouveau mantel clock in Régule with gilded detailing and a variegated marble base, featuring a central Charmeuse sculpture by Émile Guillemin, an 8‑day mechanical movement with hourly and half‑hour striking, and two coordinating flanking vases, dimensions 48 x 48 x 17 cm, weight 14.5 kg, complete with pendulum and winding key and in excellent working condition.
Description from the seller
Splendid and majestic mantel clock triptych (garniture de cheminée) in perfect Art Nouveau style, dating from the late 19th century (circa 1890).
The central element consists of a sumptuous clock surmounted by the famous sculpture entitled "Charmeuse" (The Enchantress), signed by the renowned French sculptor Émile Guillemin (1841-1907). The figure represents a young woman reclining gracefully, interacting with a small bird. The triptych is completed by two large coordinated ornamental vases (amphorae), finely decorated with floral motifs coherent with the clock.
Characteristics and Materials:
• Sculptures: Made in régule with a precious dual finish: parts in beautiful antique gilding and clothing with dark patinas in contrast that highlight the details.
• Bases: Solid precious marble boldly veined, adorned with feet and geometric decorations in gold metal.
• Dial: White enamel with Arabic numerals, enriched by delicate hand-painted flower garlands. Bears the distributor’s signature of the period: "Herviant a Reims".
State of Preservation and Functioning:
The entire set is presented in excellent aesthetic condition, with the normal and captivating patina of time attesting to its authenticity.
From a mechanical point of view, the clock is fully functional and running. The striking is regular and chimes on the hours and half-hours. Complete with its original accessories: the pendulum and the winding key.
