AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Ancient Romano-British Twisted Bronze Bangle — circa 1st–4th century C.E.
Weight: approx. 49 g
Size: approx. 64 mm

A substantial ancient bronze bangle of Romano-British type, dating to approximately the 1st–4th century C.E.
The bracelet is formed from a thick bronze rod with a distinctive twisted and ribbed body. Both terminals are flattened and decorated with incised cross-hatched geometric patterns, adding a strong decorative element to the otherwise robust form.

The open-ended construction is characteristic of ancient bronze bangles and bracelets, allowing the piece to be adjusted slightly when worn. The combination of twisted moulding, engraved terminals and heavy construction gives the object a particularly bold appearance.

Bronze bracelets of this type are associated with Roman-period Britain, where native Celtic decorative traditions continued alongside Roman fashions. Geometric ornament, punched or incised decoration and substantial bronze jewellery remained popular throughout the Romano-British period.

The surface retains an attractive natural green and brown patina developed through age and burial, with visible wear consistent with an archaeological bronze object. Mounted on a modern black cord for presentation.

Date: circa 1st–4th century C.E.
Culture: Romano-British
Material: Bronze
Diameter: approx. 64 mm
Weight: approx. 49 g
