Description from the seller
Kingdom of Italy – Order of the Crown of Italy – Cross with miniature in gold, metal and enamels – Luigi Fassino, Turin – with case.
Interesting and refined set of the Order of the Crown of Italy, historic knights' honor of the Kingdom of Italy, instituted by King Victor Emmanuel II in 1868.
The lot consists of a cross of the Order of the Crown of Italy with its ribbon, accompanied by its miniature/reduction, also complete with ribbon, all preserved in the original case from the maker Luigi Fassino of Turin.
The main decoration is finely made in metal, gold and polychrome enamels. It features the characteristic four-arm cross enameled in white, interspersed with the traditional Savoy knots.
In the center, on one side, it is depicted the Iron Crown on a circular blue enamel background; on the opposite side appears the Savoy eagle, with at the center the red shield bearing the white cross of the House of Savoy.
The enameling and the small ornamental elements are particularly accurate, typical of Italian chivalric decorations of the period.
The larger cross is accompanied by the characteristic red ribbon with a central white longitudinal stripe.
Completing the lot is a charming miniature of the same order, also finely worked and enameled and provided with its own small ribbon.
Of particular collectible interest is the presence of the original period case, externally covered in red and decorated on the lid with an elegant crowned monogram in gilded metal.
Inside the case the mark is clearly present:
FABBRICA
DISTINTIVI – MEDAGLIE
COPPE – TARGHE
LUIGI FASSINO
Corso Vitt. Em. N. 98
TORINO
Tel. N. 48-733
The presence of the case with the Turin manufacturer’s indication, together with the coordinated miniature, contributes to the historical interest and completeness of the lot.
