Description from the seller
Observer Rotterdam Micrometer Sextant – 1966 – original case & certificate – excellent condition
Beautiful and exceptionally well-preserved Observer Rotterdam micrometer sextant from 1966, originating from the Dutch merchant navy.
This sextant comes from a former mate from the merchant fleet and has actually served at sea and made long voyages. A particularly nice detail of this history is the old Jakarta sticker on the original wooden transport case. It is therefore not an instrument that spent its entire life solely as decoration, but a real nautical sextant with a beautiful and tangible maritime past.
The sextant is in excellent condition for its age and has been particularly well preserved. The instrument has been inspected, checked and tested by an expert. All adjustments operate smoothly and correctly and the sextant is still perfect to use for actual navigation and astronomical position fixing.
So it is not only a beautiful collectible, but a fully functional nautical precision instrument, professionally checked, tested and ready for use.
What is special is that the original Observer certificate is also still present. It bears the same serial number 866033 as on the sextant, together with the original correction values and the date December 5, 1966. The certificate number is 17366. The sextant, original case and certificate thus form a nicely matched set.
The sextant is delivered in the original wooden transport case, including telescope, filters/shade glasses, accessories and the original certificate, as extensively shown in the photos.
I have been selling and collecting second-hand nautical sextants for many years and pay a lot of attention to the technical condition of the instruments I offer. Therefore this sextant also applies: not good, money back, provided the instrument is returned in the same condition and without damage.
A particularly beautiful specimen for both the active navigator and the collector of historical nautical instruments. The combination of its excellent condition for its age, full usability, the original certificate with matching serial number and its genuine merchant navy history makes this a particularly complete specimen.
