Description from the seller
Portuguese dining room set in wood, marble, and straw marquetry - sideboard with glass-front, table, and 8 chairs - 1890–1920.
Impressive dining room set of Portuguese production, dating from the late 19th century or early 20th century, executed in historicist style inspired by Neo-Renaissance, with influence of the Henri II style.
The set comprises a monumental sideboard with glass-front, an oval dining table, and eight corresponding chairs.
The sideboard features a large architectural structure in dark brown wood, with framed elements, turned columns and carved detailing. The lower part integrates two central doors and several lateral drawers, topped by a light marble top with natural veining. The upper part has a central glass-front display cabinet with two glazed doors, glass shelves and a back fully lined with mirrors. On the sides there are two open display spaces, framed by turned columns and wooden panels.
The table presents a broad oval top in light marble, marked by expressive veins in gray, black and brown tones. It rests on a solid wooden base, with turned and carved supports, joined by a longitudinal crosspiece. The generous dimensions comfortably accommodate eight or more people.
The eight chairs have a wooden frame, high back with balusters, turned terminals and carved decoration exclusively on the front face. The backs and seats are upholstered in interwoven straw marquetry. The front legs have a turned finish.
A set with a commanding presence and monumental proportions, suitable for a classic dining room, historic residence, manorial house, hotel, décor project, or antique furniture collection.
