Background Information:
This cast bronze finger ring features a broad polygonal bezel engraved with a geometric cross-hatched design composed of intersecting lines forming a series of triangles. Rings decorated with simple geometric motifs were widely worn throughout the Crusader period and reflect the artistic traditions shared between the medieval Latin East, Byzantium, and the Islamic world.
Bronze rings of this type served primarily as personal ornaments and were worn by men and women from a wide range of social backgrounds. Unlike signet rings bearing heraldic devices or inscriptions, examples with geometric decoration emphasised craftsmanship and decorative appeal. The carefully incised pattern demonstrates the use of simple engraving techniques to create visually striking designs without the need for precious stones or elaborate settings.
These rings were produced by skilled metalworkers using established casting methods before the bezel was engraved by hand. Similar examples have been recovered from Crusader settlements, castles, towns, and pilgrimage sites throughout the Levant, illustrating the widespread use of bronze jewellery and the exchange of artistic influences across the eastern Mediterranean."
