Description from the seller
Jaguar D-Type Longnose #8 24h Le Mans 1955
The best race car ever? The Jaguar D-Type LN from 1955 of Norman Dewis (1920-2019)
Although he only participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans once, he played a modest but essential role in Jaguar's successful run in this race in the 1950s.
This car was specially designed by Malcolm Sayer to win the 24-hour race of Le Mans.
The D-Types LN won Le Mans in 1955, 1956 and 1957. After this Jaguar temporarily withdrew.
The design made use of aerospace technology that was revolutionary at the time. The "tub", or the cockpit area, was a monocoque construction, largely consisting of sheets of aluminum alloy.
Driver Norman Dewis worked as chief test and development engineer from 1952 to 1986.
He has driven truly interesting and special cars during that time, but nothing compares to the 1955 Jaguar D-Type with the long nose. I gave it full throttle on the straight of Mulsanne in Le Mans – 309 km/h, and I overtook Ralf Kling in the Mercedes. What a fantastic feeling.
