Trebonianus Gallus and Gallienus ruled during the mid-third-century imperial crisis, when plague, frontier invasions and repeated usurpations strained central authority. Gallus struggled to secure peace before his overthrow by his own troops, while Gallienus endured severe territorial fragmentation and reshaped military command. Their appeals to Pax and military concord reflect an urgent search for stability amid civil war and external attack.
