Original bronze panther sculpture by Raymond de Meester de Betzenbroeck (1904–1995), an acclaimed Belgian animalier, in a nuanced green patina, signed on the bronze base, dating from the 20th century, with approximate dimensions 61 × 14 × 27 cm and originating from Belgium, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
An impressive original bronze leopard by the Belgian animalier Baron Raymond de Meester de Betzenbroeck (1904–1995), one of the important Belgian sculptors who dedicated himself entirely to the study and representation of animals.
This unusually expressive sculpture shows a leopard in full motion. The artist emphasizes power, muscular physiology and dynamism. The characterful head, strong forelegs, taut body and elegantly curved tail give the sculpture an exceptionally vivid presence.
The sculpture is cast in bronze with a fine, nuanced green patina. The patina displays natural color variations that beautifully accentuate the modeling of the body. The figure rests on a long bronze base plate and is signed by Raymond de Meester de Betzenbroeck.
De Meester de Betzenbroeck enjoys international recognition as a Belgian animalier. His bronze animal sculptures are represented in museum collections and regularly appear on the international art and antique market. Recent auction results confirm the enduring interest in his work.
Particularly interesting is the fact that large, expressively modeled animal figures by De Meester regularly realize several thousand euros on the Belgian art market. A signed leopard was sold at Horta in 2025 for €5,000, while other works by the artist in recent auctions also achieved substantial sums.
This piece stands out for its substantial length of 61 cm, its powerful execution, and the appealing green patina. It is thus both a striking decorative object and an interesting piece for the collector of Belgian 20th-century animal sculpture.
