Swiss mechanical music box by Reuge Music, circa 1970–1980, in a wooden case with brass fittings, housing a CH 3/72 72-note movement that plays Canon in D by J. Pachelbel; weight 1,474 g, dimensions 21 × 7.3 × 12.3 cm, tested and working.
Description from the seller
A beautiful Swiss mechanical music box by Reuge Music, fitted with the highly regarded CH 3/72 72-note movement and playing Pachelbel’s Canon.
The original label on the underside identifies the movement as CH 3/72, with reference 37244, and specifically names “Canon – J. Pachelbel.” The 37244 movement reference corresponds to the three-part Canon arrangement for Reuge’s 72-note mechanism.
The 72-note movement represents one of Reuge’s larger traditional mechanical formats, producing a fuller and more sophisticated musical range than smaller music-box mechanisms. Reuge’s current CH 3/72 movements likewise use a 72-note comb and are crafted and assembled in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland, the historic centre of Swiss music-box production.
The music box is housed in a substantial wooden case with a rich reddish-brown finish, complemented by brass fittings, feet and mechanical components. The underside retains several original labels and markings, including the Reuge/Suisse identification, movement information and case number 103-752.
