Antique Victorian-era baptism gown set from France, cotton, white, in good condition, includes a long dress (77 x 30 cm) and a baby fascia (2.15 x 17 cm), with no original packaging.
Description from the seller
This is a refined and exclusive Victorian-era baptismal gown, a classic piece of traditional haute couture handed down as a family heirloom.
The ensemble, strictly white, includes:
• The long gown (mandriano): Characterized by short sleeves trimmed with lace and a rich central front panel decorated with cut lace, hand-embroidered inserts and sangallo details. The lower hem features a wide pleated frill entirely enriched with lace
It also includes an ancient infant umbilical band (historically also known as a swathe or band) dating from a tradition between the 19th century and the early 20th century.
It was traditionally used to tightly wrap infants or to protect and hold in place the dressing of the area.
It is made of a long strip of cotton fabric characterized by zigzag-edged borders (the typical wavy workmanship).
It presents a wider central element equipped with coordinating fabric ties, which were used to wrap and securely fasten the band around the infant's waist.
Today these antique lingerie pieces are collected as examples of textile antiques or preserved as family memories linked to the historic trousseau.
Dimensions;
Dress Length 77 x 30 cm
Band Length 2.15 x 17 cm
The attached photos show the richness of the details and the quality of these precious materials.
