AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Märklin - Steam Engine Type 4095/5 with lying boiler - ca. 1935 - Germany

Up for auction is an exceptionally well-preserved exemplar of a Märklin horizontal steam engine (model 4095/5) from the pre-war period (ca. 1935).

The model is visually in an above-average original condition. Märklin's characteristic marbled paint on the square sheet-metal base is superbly preserved. The rechaud (boiler house) with its embossed brick look shows a very nice, authentic degree of preservation with minimal age patina.

- Special collector’s feature: The original U-shaped water level sight glass on the front of the brass boiler, including the metal frame and the original slot screws, is completely intact and undamaged. Such untouched condition of this delicate component is extremely rare for models of this era.

Specifications:
• Manufacturer: Märklin, Made in Germany
• Model: 4095/5 (lying brass boiler, bronzed cylinder)
• Dimensions of the base plate: 27.5 x 27.5 cm
• Weight: approx. 1,334 grams
- Height with chimney: approx. 37 cm
- Height of chimney alone: approx. 23 cm
• Details: Steam whistle with original foot-lever mechanism, safety valve, centrifugal regulator (dummy), red flywheel with stepped cord drum for driving accessory models.
Epoch
• Pre-war period (Epoch II): Manufactured between 1930 and 1938. This is classic technical toy from the late Weimar Republic or the 1930s.
Material
• Sheet metal & brass: The base plate and the boiler house consist of embossed, lithographed and painted steel sheet (tin toy). The boiler itself as well as the steam whistle and fittings are made of brass, partially nickel-plated.

Industry Realism / Historicism:
The design exactly imitates real large factory steam engines of the turn of the century. Typical style elements are the red brick look (brick texture) of the boiler house, the classic factory flywheel, and the artificial marbling of the base plate.

Condition & notes:
All mechanism runs completely freely and can be turned by hand with extreme ease. The chimney is removable. No burner slider and no funnel are included in the scope of delivery. The engine is offered as an untested historical collector’s object.
The numerous high-resolution detail photos convey an extensive and transparent impression of the excellent condition of this lot.
Shipping will be carried out extremely securely packed, with the chimney removed and the sight glass protected, to absolutely avoid transport damage in international shipping.

The Märklin steam engine is sold as shown in the photos. It will be packed extremely securely, impact-resistant, and carefully for shipment so that it arrives unharmed with its new owner. Shipping is insured and trackable.
