Description from the seller
A Significant and Decorative Sphere of Natural Jasper — We present to the attention of collectors and lovers of natural objects a magnificent sphere of Red Jasper, carved from a solid block from Madagascar. With a considerable diameter of 126 mm and a weight of almost three kilograms, this specimen commands attention not only for its size but also for its chromatic intensity and the complex texture of its surface. The finish, perfectly polished, transforms a rough stone into an object of contemplation, a geological macrocosm that contains the primordial history of the Earth. The visual examination reveals a world of fascinating details. The dominant color is a warm vermilion red, fading into more orange and terracotta tones, creating a vibrant and deep color effect. The surface is not uniform but traversed by a dense network of natural lines and fractures, testament to the stresses the host rock endured over geologic eras. These veins are enriched by darker inclusions, probably accumulations of hematite, and by lighter areas, almost “sprayed,” which create a dynamic visual contrast and a suggestive brecciated effect. The mirror polish enhances every detail, reflecting light and giving the object an almost liquid presence. From a mineralogical point of view, Jasper is an opaque variety of chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of quartz. Its famous red coloration is due to the widespread presence of iron oxides and hydroxides, particularly hematite. The complex pattern visible in this sphere tells a geological story of fracture and reconsolidation. The original rock, formed in a silica-rich environment, underwent tectonic events that fragmented it; subsequently, hydrothermal fluids rich in minerals percolated through the cracks, cementing the fragments and creating the veins and inclusions we admire today. This sphere is therefore not just an object, but a three-dimensional geological document. In addition to its undeniable scientific and collecting interest, this specimen represents a decorative element of great impact. The spherical shape, archetype of perfection and totality, wonderfully complements the natural “imperfection” and organic character of the mineral. Its substantial size and warm colors make it capable of becoming the focal point of a space, whether a professional study, a library, a contemporary living room, or a modern Wunderkammer. It is an object that invites touch and contemplation, a piece of natural history that carries timeless elegance. The small stand visible in the photos is for display purposes and is not included in the lot. Technical details Name: Red Jasper Classification: Mineral, Chalcedony quartz variety Provenance: Madagascar Dimensions: 126 x 126 x 126 mm Weight: 2934 g Conditions: Natural, excellent polish.
