A unique and extremely rare lot for lovers of industrial design: an authentic pair of identical adjustable pendant lamps from the Jugendstil period. Originally designed in Germany as high-quality gas lamps, both models were later carefully converted to electricity. Finding an identical, complete pair of this rare model is an exceptional opportunity for collectors and interior designers.
On the white porcelain body of each lamp is the crisp factory mark: "Jacobus D.R.P. 126135". The abbreviation D.R.P. stands for Deutsches Reichspatent. This specific patent number is linked to the innovative German gas illumination system from the early 20th century.
Both lamps are equipped with the original, solid porcelain counterweight (egg-shaped), allowing the height above the table to be adjusted effortlessly. The fixture at the top is made of patinated brass, including the original taps/valves that formerly regulated the gas supply.
The elegant, wide glass shades with a wavy rim are made of opaline (milk glass), producing a beautiful warm and diffused light.
- Porcelain & Glass: In excellent collectible condition for both lamps. The porcelain parts are completely intact without chips, cracks, or restorations. The text is perfectly legible. The glass shades are intact, with no microchips at the edges.
- Enameling: The metal enameled parts show some small vintage enamel chips. These signs of age have a very attractive aesthetic and contribute to the authentic industrial character of the lamps and suit their age.
- Metal: The brass components display a wonderful authentic patina that matches the age of the piece. The gas taps and mechanisms are present.
- Electricity: The lamps have been converted to a standard electrical fitting. The old cloth wiring has dried out due to age on both lamps and should be completely replaced for safe use.
