Description from the seller
Antique Cast-Iron Pendulum Scale "Concav" Jacob Maul - From a Historic Herbal Shop. Height 24 cm, width 18 cm, depth 13 cm, weight 410 g.
Splendid and authentic vintage mechanical pendulum scale, model "Concav", produced by the renowned German manufacturer Jacob Maul (Hamburg), dating between 1910 and 1930.
This specific piece has a fascinating history: it was used for decades in a historic herbal shop for weighing medicinal herbs, spices, and natural preparations, carrying with it the charm of old artisanal workshops.
• Materials: Robust supporting frame in heavy cast iron painted black, brass lever mechanism, and a highly legible white enamel graduated dial.
• Dual-range operation: Bilateral pendulum mechanism with a lever to switch scales. Lower scale 0-50 g for precise weighing; upper scale 0-250 g for larger weights.
• Rare detail: The brass arm bears the original Dutch inscription "Voor Huishoudelijk Gebruik" (For domestic use), attesting to its vintage Belgian/Dutch market destination.
• Condition: The item is structurally intact and the mechanism moves freely. It shows a beautiful patina of time with oxidation spots and even superficial rust that certify its authenticity (not a modern reproduction). Equipped with an upper aluminum tray with a removable basin. Tested with a 20 g weight as shown in the photo. Functional adjustment screw, left leg foldable.
Perfect as a collectible piece, vintage furnishing item for kitchens, medical offices, pharmacies, or as a piece of industrial design nostalgia.
The photos are an integral part of the description (look closely for oxidation and rust in multiple spots); shipping will be fast and insured for the full value. We do not ship outside Europe.
At the end of the auction, please check the messages center where you will receive photos of the packaging and instructions for receipt.
