Description from the seller

Roman-era blown glass flask/ointment bottle.
Roman-era blown glass flask/ointment bottle.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION:
Form: globular body, narrow cylindrical neck and a very flared mouth with an outward folded rim. This shape is known in Roman typology and was used to contain perfumes, aromatic oils, medicinal ointments or cosmetics,
They were placed in necropolises and tombs as offerings or part of the funerary equipage, since the Romans associated perfumes with purity and the journey to the afterlife.
Origin: Rome
Surface: shows patina and concretions of earth and oxides, typical of archaeological finds.
Material: emerald-green blown glass, with iridescences produced by corrosion and the passage of time.
The blue-green iridescence you see is the result of the decomposition of the surface layers of the glass by humidity and soil minerals. This phenomenon, although accidental, gives ancient pieces an almost magical appearance.
Condition: excellent
Date: 1st–3rd century A.D.
Dimensions: height 61 mm - base width 50 mm,
Weight: 165 grams
Its surface shows calcifications and concretions typical of its age, which usually indicate a long burial period, and these are the best guarantee of its authenticity,
