Antique French metal table stand in gilded metal, dating to circa 1880–1910 in Rococo Revival style with two cherubs, height 18 cm, width 18 cm and depth 2 cm, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Special French antique table stand with cherubs in Rococo Revival style – circa 1880–1910. This antique table/display stand is executed in rich relief of two winged cherubs, roses, acanthus leaves and pronounced Rococo volutes.
The 'chevalet de table' rests on gracefully curled feet and is at the rear provided with a fold-out support, allowing it to stand independently on a table, console or sideboard. The central holder makes it suitable for presenting for example a photo, devotional print, baptism or communion card, wedding card, name card or small menu card.
Especially appealing are the two differently modeled cherubs: one rests its head on its hand, while the other lies with arms in front. In combination with the finely worked flower and leaf ornament, it forms a very decorative whole in the French Rococo Revival tradition.
This specific model is also unusual: when compared with antique European table- and photo-stands, similar examples with cherubs and a donkey-spring support are known, but an exact identical casting model is hard to find. This underscores the attractive and not everyday character of this object.
